Sense who’s nearby before you see them. Sonar is a private messenger that works two ways at once: Bluetooth finds the people around you — even with no internet — and the open Nostr network reaches everyone else. Your phone is the only account you need. No phone number, no company server, no cloud backup of your chats. ## Why Sonar - **Works without internet** — Bluetooth mesh relays messages phone-to-phone. Festivals, flights, blackouts, protests: if people are around, Sonar works. - **Reaches anyone, anywhere** — out of range, messages travel over Nostr (Marmot / White Noise). An open relay network nobody owns sits between you only as encrypted transport — not a product company. - **Private by design** — end-to-end encrypted DMs and groups. Your identity is a key created on the device; verify friends in person with a safety number. - **Pay as easily as you message** — Lightning / BOLT12 in-chat. Settle dinner across the table over mesh or send sats when peers are far away. - **Local-first** — transcripts open from storage on your phone first (Signal-style). Sync is background, never a spinner on open chat. ## Two networks, one chat Sonar routes automatically: Bluetooth when your friend is in range, encrypted open internet when they are not.
